Accommodations and Meals

CYA provides shared off-campus accommodation in safe residential areas in the Pangrati neighbourhood of central Athens. This neighbourhood is close to sites, monuments and museums. It is also within walking distance of cafés and grocery stores. The apartments are furnished with a kitchen that has basic cooking equipment and tableware. For overnight field trips, shared hotel accommodation will be arranged. Note: Students in this program cannot opt out of accommodation.

There is no meal plan. Students will be able to prepare food in their apartments and there are also many places nearby to eat. Students should budget approximately CAD$500 for purchased and self-prepared meals for the duration of the program.

Group Flight

No group flight is available for this program; students must make their own travel arrangements. Please note that if you choose to arrive earlier or leave later than the program dates, you will be responsible for arranging your own accommodation for the extra days. The Summer Abroad office will send recommended flight details to admitted students. CYA will offer airport transfers to students who choose to take this flight.

Entry Requirements

All students are responsible for making sure that they have the necessary travel documents to enter Greece as visitors. Information on the entry requirements for Greece is available visiting the Global Affairs Canada website. Please note that most governments have implemented special entry and exit restrictions and requirements for their country due to COVID-19.

If your flight plans include a stopover in another country (even if it is just a few hours long), you should also check that country's visa requirements in case you require a transit visa for the stopover.

Information on entry requirements is available from the Greece in Canada Consulate General in Toronto.

Health and Safety

All students admitted to the Summer Abroad program are required to successfully complete an online Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO), which will provide information and advice on international health and safety issues. Students will also be required to attend an in-person PDO specifically for the Greece program (date to be confirmed).

College Year in Athens (CYA) requires all students participating in the Greece program to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Students admitted into the Greece program will be required to submit a copy of their proof of vaccination, to be sent by email to CYA directly. You will also be required to present your proof of vaccination on-site at various site visits to gain entry.
