Spain: Santiago de Compostela
Saturday, June 28 to Saturday, July 26, 2025 (4 weeks) (tentative)
This is the first year that the University of Toronto will be offering summer courses in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. This program provides a unique opportunity for students to further develop their language skills through language courses and an exciting experiential learning course on Spanish and Health Sciences. To be eligible to take any of these courses, students will have to have taken at least 1.0 credit in any of the programs (SPA, PRT, LAS) offered by the Department of Spanish & Portuguese.
In addition to the existing departmental programs to complete study abroad, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese will offer two new scholarships of $2000, to celebrate the endowment we have just received from the Club Hispano, which will be supporting the program for the upcoming years.
Live in Santiago de Compostela!
Santiago de Compostela, is one of the cultural capitals of Europe; it is the final destination of the “Camino de Santiago”, which was recognized as the “First cultural route” by the Council of Europe. This culturally rich city attracts tourists and more than 400,000 pilgrims per year. This is a relatively small medieval city, well-communicated with the rest of Europe and very safe. The University is centrally located and students will be able to walk to restaurant and main touristic attractions.
The University of Santiago de Compostela is a top-research institution that offers a comprehensive learning environment to our students, allowing them to interact with students and faculty members in a wide-range of disciplines.
Program Activities
The program offers a series of cultural activities twice a week. These activities may include, dance classes, tours of the old city and of the university, night tours with tapas tasting, or visits to museums and exhibits. The program offers the possibility of all day tours on Saturdays.
