Accommodation and Meals
Accommodations
While in Tokyo, students will stay in single rooms at a large hotel with modern amenities (including wifi). The hotel is conveniently located close to the public transport system and is a short distance from the classrooms. It is also close to city attractions, shopping areas, restaurants, cafes, markets and shops and contains a gym.
Breakfast is included . Students are expected to budget approximately CAD$xxx for lunches and dinners.
Group Flight
There is no group flight for this program; students must make their own travel arrangements. However, a group bus may be available to transport students from the airport to the accommodation in Tokyo. Students will be informed of the bus departure time closer to the start of the program. Students who choose to arrive earlier or leave later than the program dates will be responsible for arranging their own accommodation for the extra day(s).
Entry Requirements
All students are responsible for making sure that their necessary travel documents are in order for them to enter Japan as visitors. Information on the entry requirements is available by visiting the Global Affairs Canada website. Please note that some governments may have implemented special entry and exit restrictions and requirements for their territory due to COVID-19.
Information on visitor entry requirements is also available from the Consulate General of Japan in Toronto
NOTE: International students who need to apply for a short-stay visa should apply for it in Toronto. Students can request a letter of support to assist with their visa application by emailing japan.abroad@utoronto.ca AFTER all of their program fees have been paid to the Summer Abroad office.
EDIA and Japan
As you plan your Summer Abroad journey, it is important to take the steps to decide whether this program is the right fit for you, and fits your individual needs related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA). Summer Abroad has put together an online webpage for EDIA resources and information in Japan, which contains information regarding how to navigate South Korea with your unique lived identities, as well as relevant accessibility information.
Health and safety information: all students admitted to the Summer Abroad program are required to successfully complete an online Safety Abroad Workshop, which will provide information and advice on international health and safety issues. Students are also required to attend the online Japan Pre-departure Orientation in April (details shared with students after admission).
