Italy 2021 Social Media Correspondent Video
Following her virtual Summer Abroad experience in CIN378Y, our Social Media Correspondent, Marybel, had this to say about the course:
This year, the Summer Abroad 2021 Italy program included the contribution of Professor Alberto Zambenedetti and his course “Aspects of a National Cinema: The Italian Cinematic City – A Grand Tour” (CIN378Y), which focused on Venice, Milan, Florence and Rome from a filmmaking perspective. As the Italy program was offered online due to the global pandemic, Professor Zambenedetti’s resources and knowledge to put this course together has taught us not only to carefully look at the films based in Italy and understand the meaning behind each film but also learn from the locations that were used and how they are part of the culture, history and architecture in Italy.
Once it’s safe to travel abroad, three locations I wish to visit in Italy are:
-Squero di San Trovaso (Venice) because this is where the gondolas are made and gondolas are icons that make Venice recognized around the world.
-Milan to ride the Trams (streetcars) because this reliable way of transportation makes it accessible for tourists to reach known destinations like the Arc of Peace.
-The Piazza della Signoria (Florence) for it's convenient access to nearby plazas, the National Central Library, local restaurants and importantly the Basilica di Santa Croce.
