There is no meal plan. Students are responsible for budgeting approximately CAD$500for a combination of self-prepared and purchased meals.

Flight

No group flight is available for this program; students must make their own travel arrangements. Please note that if you choose to arrive earlier or leave later than the available dates for the accommodation option you have selected, you will be responsible for arranging your own housing for the extra day(s).

Entry Requirements

All students are responsible for making sure that their necessary travel documents are in order for them to enter Hong Kong as visitors. Information on the entry requirements is available by visiting the Global Affairs Canada website.

NOTE: Students in EAS395Y and VIS327Y0 must also obtain a Visitor's Visa to China for their field trips.

Please review the up-to-date entry requirements, including any COVID-19 requirements such as screening, testing, and proof of vaccination and/or quarantine requirements, for the countries you will be visiting or travelling through if admitted to this program. You should also be aware of the re-entry requirements for you to return to Canada.

If you determine you will need to apply for a visa to  travel to your destination(s), please consider booking an appointment at the relevant consulate/embassy in Toronto in advance. Appointments can be difficult to schedule last minute. If you are not admitted to the program, you can cancel your appointment at that time.

Health and Safety

Hong Kong has relatively high levels of air pollution, which may affect students with respiratory difficulties. It is also typhoon season during June and July, with an average of 75% humidity and highs of 30 Celsius or more. In addition to the heat and humidity, much of the city, including the University of Hong Kong, is built on relatively steep hillsides.

If you are under medical care or may be affected by heat or steep terrain, you are advised to consult both a physician and the Professional & International Programs office before applying.
