Meet the Summer Work Study Team!

We are excited to welcome our new team of work study students!  These six students will be participating in an assortment of Summer Abroad programs: England, Germany, Italy, Spain, South Korea & virtual Beijing & Tianjin. Last week, they got together in the courtyard outside of Woodsworth College for their first meeting. Over the summer, they will be creating content to highlight their Summer Abroad experiencse, hosting events for Summer Abroad participants, and developing resources for the 2022/23 academic year.

Summer Abroad Program + Course: Germany (POL300Y)

One academic part of the Summer Abroad experience that I’m looking forward to is: learning about the lived experiences of immigrants, refugees and migrant settlement in Europe and comparing the newcomer’s assimilation into European society vs. North American society. 

One non-academic part of the Summer Abroad experience that I’m looking forward to is: living in Europe independently and immersing myself in German culture and society, as well as travelling to neighbouring countries to see as much as I can!

Summer Abroad Program: South Korea (MGT395Y) + England  (HIS298Y)

One academic part of the Summer Abroad experience that I’m looking forward to is:​ learning more about business models and business management strategies specifically from Asian companies that might have different work culture and perspectives than the western companies through the South Korea Program.

One non-academic part of the Summer Abroad experience that I’m looking forward to is:​ visiting different cities in the UK like Edinburgh and London which I believe will help me to immerse myself into the environment and learn more British history!

One academic part of the Summer Abroad experience that I’m looking forward to is: learning about cross-national patterns of crime and deviance. Not only am I passionate about the content, but I will also be able to connect the material to a different cultural environment that I will experience first-hand.

One non-academic part of the Summer Abroad experience that I’m looking forward to is: meeting new people and expanding my social network as I explore Italy! I will be able to interact closely both with my classmates and locals.

One academic part of the Summer Abroad experience that I’m looking forward to is: learning how the culture is influenced by food and doing Spanish food industry marketing research.

One non-academic part of the Summer Abroad experience that I’m looking forward to isenriching my international experience by immersing myself in a new national culture which can help me to understand different cultures more deeply.

One academic part of the Summer Abroad experience that I’m looking forward to is:  talking to our guest speakers, such as Chinese scholars & students, villagers, migrant workers, and women activists about the various aspects of social, economic and political changes in contemporary China.

One non-academic part of the Summer Abroad experience that I’m looking forward to is: the in-person/virtual coffee chats with professors and professionals from China to discuss the exciting outside of class topics!
