Shanghai

China: Shanghai (June and July)

Accommodation, Travel, Safety & EDIA

In Shanghai, students will be accommodated in double rooms. Details will be shared soon.

Group Flight

No group flight is available for this program; students must make their own travel arrangements. Please note that if you choose to arrive earlier or leave later than the program dates, you will be responsible for arranging your own accommodation for the extra days. The Summer Abroad office will send recommended flight details to admitted students.

Transportation from Shanghai to Hefei is included in the program costs and will be arranged by the Summer Abroad office.

Entry Requirements

All students are responsible for making sure that they have the necessary travel documents to enter China as visitors. Information on the entry requirements for China is available by visiting the Global Affairs Canada website. Please note that most governments have implemented special entry and exit restrictions and requirements for their country due to COVID-19.

If your flight plans include a stopover in another country (even if it is just a few hours long), you should also check that country's visa requirements in case you require a transit visa for the stopover.

Information on entry requirements is available from the Chinese Visa Application Service Center.

Health and Safety

Visit COVID-19 Update and Planning for more information.

All students admitted to the Summer Abroad program are required to complete an online Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO), which will provide information and advice on international health and safety issues. Students will also be required to attend a PDO specifically for the Singapore program (date to be confirmed).

Shanghai has relatively high levels of air pollution, which may affect students with respiratory difficulties. If you are under medical care or may be affected by the pollution, you are advised to consult both a physician and the Professional & International Programs office before applying.

EDIA & China

As you plan your Summer Abroad journey, it is important to take the steps to decide whether this program is the right fit for you, and fits your individual needs related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA). Summer Abroad has put together an online webpage for EDIA resources and information in China, which contains information regarding how to navigate South Korea with your unique lived identities, as well as relevant accessibility information.

Health and safety information: all students admitted to the Summer Abroad program are required to successfully complete an online Safety Abroad Workshop, which will provide information and advice on international health and safety issues. Students are also required to attend the online China Pre-departure Orientation in April (details shared with students after admission).
